Have you ever had your electricity go out when you were not expecting it? This just happened to us here in Ventura Marina Senior Community over the past weekend. Actually, it was fun, believe it or not…or fun for a while! While it was still light outside it was not a big deal, but when the sun set it was fun. Many of us got out and walked the neighborhood, meeting folks we had not seen in a while, or joining neighbors who were sitting on their decks, inviting anyone who cared to join them for a glass of wine and a some sharing of stories from days gone by. Several of us drove around and around trying to charge our cell phones, till I remembered I could use my laptop to charge the phone, so I did! Many residents went to local restaurants or movies, but many places to eat were dark also, so we had to go out of the area to find a restaurant. No TV, candles lit in the dark in order to read or do crossword puzzles, cakes baking in the oven, which did not turn out too well, and many of us retiring by 8:30 or 9:00 just because there was nothing else to do. Seems like the whole community was up by 5:30 0r 6:00, well-rested! Why did the lights go out? It was not just here in our little community, but various areas in Ventura! Something about a transformer…not really sure. They came back on about 4:00 AM, and I was awakened to the sound of Blake Shelton playing loudly on the satellite, the copy machine going through its motions, and the clocks blinking on the stove and micro-wave. Just another thing we take for granted–flipping a switch and voila’ we have light! Until we don’t! All is well now, and living in a manufactured home here in Ventura Senior Community is the best!!
See you soon . . .
