Ventura Marina Senior Community

Well, if you enjoy the small-town feel, the old time neighborhood bars where everyone knows your name, the unique little boutiques, wide variety of restaurants from California Cuisine, Mexican, Indian, Thai and Vietnamese, the old mission and the quaint little adobe homes sprinkled throughout the city, it just might be as close to Mayberry as you can get.  We affectionately call it “Ventucky”!

If you are in a hurry, like to rush around, always stressed, maybe this is not for you.  No one seems to be in a rush when they finally surrender to the “Ventura spell”!!   I have lived here from Sherman Oaks for almost 12 years, and, yes, it has changed, more congested, but still Paradise compared to other areas.

Here are some of my favorites vendors, just my opinion—-Nails by Jenny, located at Elegant Nails, 805-300-8214.  She and Tracy are the best, quick, clean, professional and very accommodating.  When I had my knee surgery she insisted upon coming to my home!

Trish Beckwith does my hair.  She can be contacted at 805-797-2468.  I have long, highlighted blonde hair,  lots of it, but very fine.  She does a great job!

Plumbers – Either Mike Kimble 805-644-4180 or Franklin & Vizzo, 805-987-6220.  I have used both, they give senior discounts.

Schaefer Electric – 805-984-9400.  One  guy showed up, did his work, very quick, no conversation, just worked and left.  My kind of electrician!

Heater and furnace – A-Day heating and Air – 805-642-0619.  Again, one guy, the owner, showed up, did a quick and thorough job, hardly spoke a word, wasted no time, and he was gone!!  By the way, he had to fix and correct what the guy before him did!!

Neighborhood Car Care – if you don’t want to go to the dealer– 1838 E. Thompson, 805-641-2302. Very reasonable prices, great work, very clean and organized, pick up and deliver, and very busy.  Make an appointment.

Acupuncture and Massage – Holistic Healing Center – 805-653-6008.  All the practitioners are really good.  It is immaculate, quiet and restful.

I go to Ventura Orthopedics,  Dr.Jason  Hofer, for my knee.  Dr. Benito Padraza, Gastroenterologist, and Dr. Dennis Brooks, Cardiologist.  I see Dr. Bryant Lum, Ophthalmologist, and there is an Optometrist in his office to fit you for eye wear.

My favorite restaurant for Happy Hour and dinner, due to the amazing sunset views– The Rhumb Line.  It will be closed for remodeling, new menu, new owners, and new name–The Waters Edge! It will reopen sometime this summer.  It is located on Anchors Way, across from Ventura Marina Community!
